Our Story | THE RESTAURATEURS

January 2024 marks another anniversary for Petey’s II. Generations of family dining for over five decades.

Born and raised in a small town in western Greece, Mary set out on a journey overseas to America at young age in her 20s with her aunt to make a better life for herself and her family in Greece. Born in a small mountainous village on a Greek island in the northern Aegean Sea, Petey set sail to the United States at a young age in pursuit of the American Dream. Petey eventually met Mary and the rest is history. 

Mary and Petey opened their first restaurant in Oak Lawn, IL back in 1961 named Petey’s Bungalow Lounge, a quaint, little restaurant with a supper club feel. Down the road in 1969, they were driven and inspired to open a second location in the middle of nowhere surrounded by vast farmland in the heart of Orland Park; Petey’s II opened its doors and for decades has become a family dining tradition welcoming many generations of diners. 

As the anchor of the Petey’s legacy, Mary’s leadership and management paved the successful long history of both restaurants while Petey focused his energy at what he enjoys most… being in the kitchen cooking up a storm and greeting diners at the Bungalow. Mary along with her brother Sam ran operations and managed front-of-house at the second location for decades and were instrumental in building the business. We sincerely appreciate their commitment, leadership, tenacity, and contribution to the longevity and success of our organization through the years. Mary continued to work operations behind the scenes and after Sam’s retirement, FOH Management may have changed yet our core values, mission and goals remained the same.
